Legendary songwriter, producer, recording artist and performer Valerie Simpson in conversation with Phil Galdston, NYU Songwriter-in-Residence

Valerie Simpson is half of Ashford & Simpson, one of the most prolific and versatile songwriting/performing/producing musical teams in recording history. With her late husband, Nick Ashford, Valerie penned such classic song as, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “You’re All I Need to Get By,” “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” “Solid,” “Your Precious Love,” and “Let’s Go Get Stoned.”

Ms. Simpson serves as a Writer Member of ASCAP’s Board of Directors and as a member of the Board of The ASCAP Foundation. In 2012, she established in Nick Ashford’s honor the Reach Out and Touch Award, which provides aid to struggling songwriters. In addition, she runs The Sugar Bar, a popular Upper West Side Manhattan music club and restaurant, giving young writers, singers, and musicians a platform to perform.

Valerie recently released a solo album Dinosaurs Are Coming Back Again, which was 11 years in the making. She is currently performing concerts around the country in support of this new project and she was just featured on Oprah Winfrey’s Next Chapter.

Admission to this event is free and open to the public.
