International Day of The Girl Celebration

To celebrate the first-ever International Day of the Girl, FAIR Girls, along with its community partners Covenant House, Sasha Bruce Youthwork, and Washington Area Women's Foundation, will hold the official proclamation ceremony at New York University’s beautiful new Constance Milstein and Family Global Academic Center on Wednesday, October, 10th 2012 from 6-8pm. The program will consist of a presentation of the proclamation, which is a pledge drafted by teen advisers to increase opportunities for girls in D.C. that is signed by Councilman Jack Evans to officially recognize the Day of the Girl in the Nation’s capital. Councilman Jack Evans will deliver a short speech, as well as Victoria Pannell, a 13 year old actress and girls' rights activist, and Tyra, a 19 year old participant of FAIR Girls' economic empowerment program, JewelGirls.
The evening will showcase special performances from girls arts/performing arts groups in the area, high schools, private schools, all girl choirs, and more. The evening will celebrate girls' achievements, talents, and voices in the community in an interactive, fun, and educational way. Participating organizations will be presenting literature and information about their programs and JewelGirls' will be displaying their handcrafted jewelry for sale.
